Christmas is just around the corner. People are cheery and excited, except for Ebenezer Scrooge for whom Christmas is just another day. Ebenezer is an old, bitter miser who has distanced himself from everyone and leads a lonely life by his own choice. He is greedy and selfish and the most important thing for him is hoarding money.

The stories in this collection are all about Christmas, but that does not mean that they are all happy and tranquil. Sincere and romantic ones like O. Henry’s meet the mysterious tales of Chesterton and Conan Doyle. A malevolent and nihilist gravedigger receives absolution from the most unlikely of creatures, while a poor shoemaker that has renounced God begins to look for His presence through his small window.

"A Jury of Her Peers" is a short story by Susan Glaspell, adapted from her one-act play "Trifles" exploring a murder mystery. The detectives trying to solve the crime are two women, making it one of the first pieces feminist detective fiction. It targets the vainglorious and absent-minded decisions of men, and highlights female’s psychology and powerfulness of feeling.

"You won't know till afterward. You won't know till long, long afterward. " When Ned and Mary Boyne hear that their new house is haunted, they laugh it off and joke that every good house in the countryside must have a ghost for it to be worth purchasing. They move in and forget all about its supposed supernatural quirks.

"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and Other Tales" is a collection of 23 stories by the American author Ambrose Bierce. It consists of some of the author’s best known works such as "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge", "Chickamauga", "A Horseman in the Sky" and many others. The American Civil War, execution of plantation owner, twist endings, stream of consciousness narration, soldiers who are morally challenged, horses running through the sky, murder and supernatural occurrences.

Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and mad scientists. The most characteristic features of the gothic and horror genre are combined here, together with some mysterious and hard to crack, enigmatic tales. The listener will be Dracula's, or seek the elixir of life with an alchemy student; they will run in horror before the headless horseman or be poisoned by the beautiful daughter of the mad scientist Rappaccini.

With "Death at the Excelsior" the master of humor, P. G. Wodehouse, entertains his readers with a classic detective story. When a sea captain dies under terribly mysterious circumstances on land, detective Paul Snyder is called in to solve the case. Yet it is far from an easy one: the captain was inside his room at a boarding house called The Excelsior and died of a snake bite.

You have certainly heard of Dracula. But do you know the whole story? Everything begins with Jonathan Harker, an English solicitor who travels to Transylvania. He is about to sell a piece of real estate to Count Dracula. The locals warn Harker of the strange things that occur near Count Dracula’s castle, but Harker doesn't listen.

An Englishman stops at an inn during his trip through Transylvania. He decides to wander around in a carriage despite the approaching night; darkness doesn't seem to worry him. He sets off but after a while the horses get scared by howling wolfs. The Englishman continues by foot and suddenly finds himself in a snowy and gloomy cemetery.

A man’s beloved woman suddenly dies of pneumonia. He cannot cope with the loss and spends a whole night wandering around the cemetery searching for her. However, what he finds and sees there is far from what he expected. Would you feel fear after reading "Was It A Dream?"? Then it may be interesting for you to find out what the characters in Maupassant’s short story "Fear" have to say about it as well.
